The award winning Mourne Seafood Cookery School was established to promote the fresh local sustainable seafood landed at Kilkeel Harbour, home to Northern Ireland’s largest fishing fleet. The experience was developed to tell the story of the local fishermen, seafood, and its social, cultural, and economic importance to the local community. It was part of a larger integrated strategic development plan, to compliment the Mourne Maritime Visitor Centre. It delivers hands on cookery seafood masterclasses and cookery demonstrations, which attracts coach groups, and generates bed nights.
The concept was researched and developed, funding and investment secured, project successfully implemented, brand developed and marketing/ quality experience success with winning of NITB award for excellence. This was a major income generator for its parent organisation, Kilkeel Development Association.
